About The Class
- You must sign up for a class to reserve a space.
To do so, send an email to the contact person's email listed on the particular class announcement.
- Attendance is required for each and every day that the course is scheduled .
- There is no minimum age requirement.
- Attendees need to be mature enough to understand the material presented and to demonstrate this understanding on the written test.
- The entry level courses are mostly classroom lecture.
- The course requires 18 hours of instruction, so classes usually run for multiple days.
- There is a written test (100 detailed questions, true/false and multiple choice)
- A Score of 75% is required to pass.
- Students will complete a USSF Referee registration form and pay a $50 fee.
- Important Note: Please contact one of our assignors once you have completed the course! (See information below in the "Upon Completion" section).

What To Bring
- The fee for the course is $50. You may pay by cash, or personal check made out to SRC or State Referee Committee.
- You should bring for note taking and class work:
- Paper for note taking
- BLACK or BLUE ball point pen
- Pencil with good eraser (for test taking)
- Quality Whistle. No neck lanyard
- There will be some outside/field work
- Wear comfortable clothes.
- Wear shoes that you can do light jogging and field work in. No sandals or flip-flops. Cleats are not required.
- Weekend classes often have a lunch break. You may bring your own lunch or plan to eat out

Upon Completion
Upon completion of the course and registration, candidates will receive:
- United States Soccer Federation (USSF) badge; You are eligible to referee games immediately.
- Referees are required to re-certify and register annually, on a calendar year basis.
- Re-certification for a Grade 8 referee (the grade entry level referees start at) requires five hours of instruction and passing a written test. There are various re-certification (refresher) clinics given in Southern California during the year, watch the newsletter for dates and information.
- Currently, the annual re-registration fee is $40. Referees must be registered for the current calendar year to be assigned to USSF affiliated games (e.g. all CYSA-South youth games and most adult amateur games).
- It is the responsibility of the referee to make contact with a referee assignor to be assigned to games.

Getting your Games: Contact Assignor
You may receive contact information for the assignors at the clinic, or you can access the information online on this web site. Check out our assignor page for the names and phone numbers of our assignment secretaries, or contact the director of assignments for more information. Call one of our assignors to let them know that you have completed the course and you are interested in being assigned to referee games.
